Federal health officials are warning of another food-poisoning outbreak related to contaminated produce. This time, it’s alfalfa sprouts.
The FDA and the CDC confirmed that as of Friday, 55 people have fallen ill across 15 states with either salmonella or E. coli, or — in rare cases — both.
They said the real number is likely higher. At least four people have been hospitalized as of Friday, and no deaths have been reported.
Officials link the outbreak to Minnesota grower Everything Sprouts, which also sells its alfalfa sprouts under the brand name Calco.
Consumers are advised not to eat the sprouts.
