“Thunderstorms” is a song about finding the person in your life that gives you peace, the person that makes everything feel right and truly good. I’m lucky to have a partner that is very gifted at keeping me from getting carried away in my own storms. There will always be more work to do, but having someone to work for can change everything.
This song was the last song to be turned in for the album, and it’s the most aesthetically different from the rest of the track list. I recorded the whole thing at my home studio, after spending a few on-and-off months trying to find the last piece of the puzzle. I surprised myself with just how perfectly this last piece ended up fitting. It tied together themes from other songs, gave a lovely change of pace just when it felt needed, and allowed me to take a more minimal approach to my part writing that felt very fresh to me. This song turned this collection of material into a proper album for me, and I’m proud that it sits nicely alongside the bigger and more bombastic songs.
