This marks the conclusion of my 2026 lecture on Brave New World. While the work is categorized as dystopian, what the contemporary reader perceives as dystopian, namely its eugenics and absolute human conditioning, is not what made it so to his Huxley's contemporaries.
They, like he, were eugenicists, and fully endorsed what C.S. Lewis called 'The Abolition of Man'. In other words, they rejected the realm of ethics in the modern scientific world.
What makes Brave New World dystopian is that it didn't envision this scientifically-managed future as getting rid of the problem of human nature. The Alphas themselves, who most benefitted from the caste system, would be happiest outside the World State.
