*Alberto Privitera | Light-Driven Molecular Qubits*
Abstract: Quantum technologies are set to transform the way we live, work, and understand the world. At the heart of these technologies lies the qubit, the fundamental unit of quantum information. Molecules offer a compelling platform for qubit implementation by exploiting their electron and nuclear spins, enabling atomic-level control over magnetic, optical, and electronic properties, together with highly reproducible fabrication.

Despite these advantages, molecular qubits - like most quantum technologies - still face major challenges, including operation at sub-kelvin temperatures and the controlled scaling to multiqubit architectures. In this webinar, Alberto will illustrate how the use of light in molecularly engineered qubits can open a promising route toward more accessible, scalable, and versatile quantum technologies.

Bio: Alberto received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Padova (2018). Since then, he conducted research at the University of Oxford (2017-2020), Turin (2021), Florence (2022-2023), and Northwestern University (2023-2025). He is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Florence and Principal Investigator of the ERC Starting Grant LIGHT-QIS and the FIS Starting Grant SPIROχ, working in the Laboratory of Molecular Magnetism.

*About The Foresight Institute*

The Foresight Institute is a research organization and non-profit that supports the beneficial development of high-impact technologies. Since our founding in 1986 on a vision of guiding powerful technologies, we have continued to evolve into a many-armed organization that focuses on several fields of science and technology that are too ambitious for legacy institutions to support. From molecular nanotechnology, to brain-computer interfaces, space exploration, cryptocommerce, and AI, Foresight gathers leading minds to advance research and accelerate progress toward flourishing futures.
