One of the most successful musical comedies of its time: Albert Lortzing’s Spieloper ZAR UND ZIMMERMANN (Tsar and Carpenter) is finally returning to a Berlin stage after decades of absence.
Director Martin G. Berger transposes the turbulent story of a tsar on a spy mission to the fantasy state of Tschirikistan. With verve and situational humor, he reveals the weaknesses and longings of his characters, who navigate the space between high politics and petty-bourgeois narrow-mindedness, and realises – this is not so far removed from the present day.
