Circa 1930s scenes of the Bristol Bay sailing fleet in Southwest Alaska include fishermen hauling in nets full of salmon, a cannery, fishing nets, a barge, and the fleet under sail. Sailing boats known as Bristol Bay "double-enders" were utilized for commercial fishing in the bay for nearly 70 years until the use of power boats became permitted in 1951 (Color/Silent/16mm film).
This is a clip from AAF-1158 of the Dickson Collection held by the Alaska Film Archives, a unit of the Alaska and Polar Regions Collections & Archives Department in the Elmer E. Rasmuson Library, University of Alaska Fairbanks.
