On March 17, 2021 an extremely volatile atmosphere was in place over the southeastern United States. The conditions were extremely favorable for rotating thunderstorms called supercells to form over the states of Alabama and Mississippi. These storms are responsible for the majority of the worlds violent tornadoes. The Storm Prediction Center took note of the extremely volatile conditions in place and issued a rare High Risk of severe weather including a 45% hashed area for significant tornadoes, the highest I had ever chased in. In this video you can see 3 of these supercells, one of which dropped several tornadoes in extremely close proximity to my location.
