This is a video of my grandma singing "alabama coon", a song she learned from her mother when she was 8 years old. How far back in time this song goes is impossible to determine, but I have a hunch that it might have its origins when slaves were working in the cotton fields of the southern U.S. around the time of the Civil War or a short time after. I had forgotten that I had this video until I went through some old tapes. Thankfully this part of my family ancestry has been preserved. My grandma died in 2003 (if I remember correctly) at the age of 96.
