Because they contain only the notes of a chord, arpeggios are a great way of adding strong, fluid-sounding phrases to solos. Their intervallic nature also adds ear-grabbing interest, allowing you to cover wide expanses of the fretboard with a few notes.
In this video lesson, Elixir Strings artist Al Joseph teaches you a killer arpeggio lick in the key of E Minor, from his track Elemental. The lick features major 7 and dominant 7 arpeggios that combine to deliver flowing lines with a neo-classical flavour. It’s an advanced lesson when played up to speed, but well worth the time to practice slowly and build accuracy and tempo!
