The girders form the backbone of a new bridge that will carry the new SR 167 tolled expressway over I-5 in Fife and establishes a portion of the future SR 167/I-5 diverging diamond interchange.
Each of the 15 bridge girders weigh 277,000 pounds and are 222 feet 9 inches long, spanning the entire width of I-5 at the Fife curve. Two cranes placed in both northbound and southbound lanes of I-5 lifted and set the girders into place. The girders are manufactured by Concrete Technology Corporation in Tacoma.

This project will complete the SR 520’s east-to-west reconstruction from I-405 to I-5, bringing critical safety, mobility, and environmental improvements to one of the busiest corridors in the Puget Sound region.
Held at the Seattle Yacht Club, the groundbreaking brought together elected officials, tribal representatives, government agencies and community partners to celebrate this important milestone. While the event marked the start of project construction, it also provided an opportunity to recognize decades of planning, collaboration, partnerships, engagement and construction progress we’ve made along the SR 520 corridor. Construction activities will ramp up starting this fall. The project is expected to be completed in 2031.

This project will improve the connection between the City of Bingen, the Port of Klickitat, and SR 14, making it safer and more efficient for everyone. Currently, when a train passes through the area, all travelers, including emergency responders, must wait to cross the railroad tracks, causing delays, congestion, and backups along SR 14. In partnership with BNSF, the City of Bingen, the Port of Klickitat, Klickitat County, and the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission, WSDOT has designed an access improvement project that includes a new roundabout on SR 14 that connects to Marina Way via a new grade separated railroad crossing. When trains move through the area, emergency responders will have direct access to port area directly while keeping traffic flowing smoothly along SR 14 through Bingen.
