I think it is a big improvement- the metal plate handled the heavy weight and stopped the shim from just bulging around the door slab.

What my crew likes is the even, controlled lift they get, with no 'wrap around'. The full force is applied as they pump, and not having plastic crawl around the fragile edges of our expensive stain-grade veneer flush doors is much safer for protecting our product.
