Airless spraying a ceiling with a Graco airless paint sprayer and a tip extension, can produce paint spits.

Paint spits are un-atomised pockets of material, that is not at working pressure after the needle shutoff.. So when using a tip extension, the tip guard and spray tip is moved further away from the needle — That pocket of material is released at a lower pressure, plus the longer the extension, the bigger the spit.

One solution is trigger off and on your plastic masking film. However, if you have a ceiling peppered with obstacles (lights, smoke detectors, staircase joinery) — You simply don’t want heavy spots of paint when triggering around them —

So what’s the solution when using a tip extension? — Add a Graco CleanShot on the end, then attach the tip guard and tip..
