This skill video will show you how to extinguish a wheel assembly fire with a handline.
CAUTION: High temperature may cause fusible plugs to blow, creating a fragmentation hazard.
1. Deploy and charge the handline.
2. Approach the wheel assembly from a 45-degree angle.
3. Operate the nozzle using water at appropriate pressure and flow using prescribed techniques until fire is extinguished.
NOTE: If magnesium or titanium is suspected, large amounts of water from a distance is an effective initial extinguishing technique. However, if the fire is not extinguished, appropriate Class D extinguishing techniques should be deployed.
NOTE: Practice agent conservation.
