This skill video demonstrates how to drive an ARFF Apparatus.

NOTE: Ensure vehicle is properly prepared and all personnel are clear before performing this skill.

1. Perform the steps in Skill Sheet 10-4 to start the apparatus.

2. Ensure that all apparatus personnel are seated and wearing safety restraints and hearing protection.

3. Depress the service brake pedal.

4. Release the parking brake.

5. Place the transmission into a gear for normal operation.

6. Drive forward, depressing the accelerator appropriately.

7. Proceed forward after apparatus clears station and you have an unobstructed view of airport ramp and traffic conditions.

8. Bring the apparatus to a complete stop by braking smoothly.

9. Shut down the apparatus per Skill Sheet 10-4.
