This skill video will show you how to demonstrate the procedure for conducting a primary search of an aircraft after self-evacuation.

NOTE: The primary search team should include at least two members.

1. Confirm order to conduct primary search with officer or supervisor and establish search pattern to be used.

2. Size up aircraft to be searched.

3. Search the aircraft using established search pattern and update IC on progress.

NOTE: A thorough search is extremely important. Victims, particularly infants, can be overlooked or may be hidden by debris.

4. Remove any victims and inform IC of victim(s).

NOTE: Do not remove casualties that are obviously dead from the plane until the investigators have granted permission to remove them.

5. Exit aircraft when the search is complete.

6. Report completion of primary search to officer or supervisor.

NOTE: After completion of the primary search, a second team conducts a secondary search of the aircraft.

NOTE: Secondary search team should include at least two members.
