An Air Canada Express regional jet collided with an airport fire truck on a runway at LaGuardia Airport late Sunday night, injuring at least four people and forcing a prolonged closure of one of the United States’ busiest airports.
The aircraft, operated by Jazz Aviation on behalf of Air Canada, struck a Port Authority Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting vehicle at around 11:40 p.m., according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
The fire truck had been responding to a separate incident at the time of the collision.
Emergency protocols were immediately activated, authorities said, with the airport shut down to allow first responders to secure the scene and investigators to begin examining the cause of the crash.
