Before the invasion of Luzon in January of 1945, the US Army started frequent and devastating air raids on Japanese airfields and other installations even the year before. These planes took off from either airfields in Leyte or San Jose in Mindoro or from the many carriers of the US Navy that were offshore. One of these was the USS Essex, and this video documented action not only from the deck but also the air raids of its fighter and torpedo bomber aircraft.
