Tony Lee Glenn | Ain't No Grave Gonna Hold My Body Down - 1 Corinthians 15 Re-Write - Tony Lee Glenn @tonyleeglenn | Uploaded December 2023 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
"Ain't No Grave Gonna Hold My Body Down" is an old Public Domain gospel song that is attributed to to Claude Ely (1922–1978) of Virginia. I like his old traditional version, and I like the new Bethel version with Molly Skaggs (a re-write) as well - but I've always thought this song would be way more powerful with a good dose of 1 Corinthians 15, verses 51-57, to bring a more focused Biblical message to the verses. I've always thought the chorus is inspired and perfect. See if you like this new version I wrote after reading about the Rapture that so soon shall come. God bless you all! - Here are my new verses:
Sin held me in bondage - a slave to every vice.
Jesus broke my shackles through His Holy sacrifice.
I shall not lie in darkness, though my flesh be in the ground.
I will rise without corruption when I hear that mighty sound.
Ain't no grave gonna hold my body down - Aint no grave gonna hold my body down.
When I hear that trumpet sound - I'm gonna get up out of the ground.
Ain't no grave gonna hold my body down.
Grave where is thy vict'ry? - Oh death where is thy sting?
My resurrection's guaranteed by the blood of my Great King.
Fear will not consume me, my faith is in God's Son.
And if I stand or if I fall, my eternal life is won!
Ain't no grave gonna hold my body down - Aint no grave gonna hold my body down.
When I hear that trumpet sound - gonna get up out of the ground.
Ain't no grave gonna hold my body down.
Darkness may surround me, as I journey here below,
But greater is the One in me, than the one who brings me woe.
It may seem I’m defeated, when they lay me ‘neath the sod,
But I shall stand revived some day by the Holy Son of God!
Ain't no grave gonna hold my body down - Aint no grave gonna hold my body down.
When I hear that trumpet sound - gonna get up out of the ground.
Ain't no grave gonna hold my body down.
My body now seems broken, yes I die a bit each day.
But a new one soon awaits me, one that shall pass away.
And if the Lord requires my soul, before that rapture hour,
I will soon be reunited through His resurrection power.
Ain't no grave gonna hold my body down - Aint no grave gonna hold my body down.
When I hear that trumpet sound - gonna get up out of the ground.
Ain't no grave gonna hold my body down.
