Craig Basten performed as Koiné’s audio engineer for many years, touring with the band in support of The Vine, Emmanuel Lux, and other works. Because we consider Craig to be part of our Koiné family, and because he’s given of himself to so many others for so long, we’re pleased to be able to organize this fundraiser for Craig and his family to offset the increasing financial and life burdens that this disease has presented over the past 3½ years.
Craig's Story:
On the evening of December 26, 2018, Craig was admitted to the emergency room with intense lower abdominal pain. He was about to be sent home with an inconclusive X-ray, when an eagle-eyed radiologist picked up on something in the images and insisted he be held for a CT scan. The CT revealed what nobody wants to hear…Cancer. Stage 4. Primarily in the colon with a near complete blockage, with metastases in the liver, lungs, and abdominal lining.
Craig was admitted to the hospital as an inpatient immediately, where later on the morning of the 27th, he received emergency surgery to unblock the colon and remove the primary tumor via use of an ostomy.
Since that time, Craig has undergone multiple rounds of chemotherapy and surgeries. For the most part these have been successful. However as time has pressed on, complications have arisen and the path to a cure has grown much more cloudy. After a fairly long period of the metastases getting smaller and less active, the reverse is now true, with scans showing more malignancies appearing with greater activity than previously seen. In addition, he has contracted a liver condition which has made him jaundiced and unable to receive chemotherapy due to the liver toxicity. For the time being, there is no clear treatment path.

This Lenten hymn invites us to come to the location where Jesus was brutally executed. It’s inviting the mean, the defiled, the unclean, the troubled, and the wounded. And in those negative human traits, it’s talking about all of us.
But then there’s the upbeat arrangement and the positive lyrics which remind us that this is where Christ bought our salvation. That only through Christ are we forgiven for our sins. Through Christ, we can find comfort when we are broken. That this covenant was made through Christ’s sacrifice and will never be broken.

Holy Night! - Christian Song with LyricsKoine2021-10-15 | A Christmas favorite, "Stille Nacht,” or Silent Night, was first performed on Christmas Eve 1818. The story has it that Father Joseph Mohr had written the lyrics as a poem 2 years prior. Father Mohr asked the schoolmaster Franz Xaver Gruber to write a melody and a guitar accompaniment for evening mass. Why a guitar accompaniment? It is reported that a flood from a rising river had damaged the church’s organ. Repeated flooding eventually destroyed the “Silent Night Chapel,” but the hymn lives on and is sung year after year to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

Lyrics: Silent night! Holy night! All is calm, all is bright,
Round yon virgin mother and child. Holy Infant, so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace, Sleep in heavenly peace.
Silent night! Holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight.
Glories stream from heaven afar; Heav'nly hosts sing, Alleluia;
Christ, the Savior, is born! Christ, the Savior, is born!
Silent night! Holy night! Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from thy holy face With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord, at thy birth, Jesus, Lord, at thy birth.God’s Word Is Our Great Heritage - Christian Hymn with LyricsKoine2021-10-01 | Like this video? You can find this, plus sheet music, audio tracks, still and motion backgrounds, presentation slides, and more at www.koineworshipmedia.com

Written in 1817 by N. F. S. Grundtvig, God's Word Is Our Great Heritage was originally written as a fifth verse for Martin Luther's Ein feste Burg (A Mighty Fortress is Our God.) In 1916, Friedrich Otto Reuter, a professor at Martin Luther College, paired the hymn with a melody he composed which is how most of us know it today.
Lyrics: God's Word is our great heritage And shall be ours forever; To spread its light from age to age Shall be our chief endeavor. Through life it guides our way; In death it is our stay. Lord, grant, while worlds endure, We keep its teachings pureThroughout all generations. If God Had Not Been on Our SideKoine2021-09-24 | Like this video? Written around 1524 by Martin Luther, this hymn reminds us of the woes and torment we would be susceptible to without God's protection. The first two stanzas point to the worldly distractions and hardships we face that would surely overpower us without God. The third stanza, while still stating the challenges we face, serves as a prayer of thanks to God and a reminder that our strength comes through Him. This hymn is a great reminder that as Christians, we must daily look to God for strength; thanking Him and praising Him.
Lyrics: If God had not been on our side And had not come to aid us, Our foes with all their pow'r and pride Would surely have dismayed us, For we, his flock, would have to fear The devil's wolves, both far and near, Who rise in might against us.
Their furious wrath, did God permit, Would surely have consumed us And as a deep and yawning pit With life and limb entombed us. A hellish storm would o'er us roll From Satan, who desires our soul And seeks to overwhelm us.
Blest be the Lord, who foiled their threat That they could not devour us. Our souls, like birds, escaped their net; They could not overpow'r us. The snare is broken–– we are free! Our helper and our strength is he Who made the earth and heavens.May God Bestow on Us His Grace - Christian Song with LyricsKoine2021-09-03 | Written by Martin Luther sometime around 1523, May God Bestow on Us His Grace is a musical adaptation of Psalm 67. The hymn was originally written as a closing benediction.

Lyrics: May God bestow on us his grace, With blessings rich provide us, And may the brightness of his face To life eternal guide us That we his saving health may know, His gracious will and pleasure, And also to the heathen show Christ's riches without measure And unto God convert them.
Yours over all shall be the praise And thanks of ev'ry nation, And all the world with joy shall raise The voice of exultation. For you will judge the earth, O Lord; You will not let sin flourish. Your people's pasture is your Word, Their souls to feed and nourish, In righteous paths to keep them.
Oh, let the people praise your worth, In all good works increasing. The land shall plenteous fruit bring forth; Your Word is rich in blessing. May God the Father, God the Son, And God the Spirit bless us. Let all the world praise him alone; Let solemn awe possess us. Written by Martin Luther in 1541, Lord, Keep Us Steadfast in Your Word was a prayer for safety as the Turkish army threatened to take Vienna. Though references of the threat of the Turks and the Pope to the church have since been removed, this hymn is still used today in times of war or persecution to proclaim God's Word. The text is constructed in a Trinitarian mold with stanza 1 singing to God the Father, stanza 2 to God the Son, and stanza 3 singing to God the spirit.
Lyrics: Lord, keep us steadfast in your Word; Curb those who by deceit or sword Would seek to overthrow your Son And to destroy what he has done.
Lord Jesus Christ, your pow'r make known, For you are Lord of lords alone; Defend your Christendom that we May sing your praise eternally.
O Comforter of priceless worth, Send peace and unity on earth. Support us in our final strife, And lead us out of death to life.
(Musical Interlude)
Lord, keep us steadfast in your Word; Curb those who by deceit or sword Would seek to overthrow your Son And to destroy what he has done.

Lyrics: O little town of Bethlehem How still we see thee lie Above thy deep and dreamless sleep The silent stars go by Yet in thy dark streets shineth The everlasting Light The hopes and fears of all the years Are met in thee tonight
For Christ is born of Mary And gathered all above While mortals sleep, the angels keep Their watch of wondering love O morning stars together Proclaim the holy birth And praises sing to God the King And Peace to men on earth
How silently, how silently The wondrous gift is given! So God imparts to human hearts The blessings of His heaven. No ear may his His coming, But in this world of sin, Where meek souls will receive him still, The dear Christ enters in.

Lyrics: My soul proclaims, My soul proclaims, My soul proclaims...
My soul now glorifies, My spirit sings in God, my Savior, For he is mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed.
My soul proclaims, My soul proclaims The greatness of the Lord. For the Mighty One has done great things And holy is his name. His mercy touches all who live in reverence and fear From generation to generation.
He has done mighty deeds; He has scattered those who are proud within their thoughts. He’s brought down rulers down from their thrones and lifted up the meek. He has filled the hungry with good things and the rich are empty.
My soul proclaims, My soul proclaims The greatness of the Lord. For he has come to Israel to remember mercy.
My soul proclaims, My soul proclaims The greatness of the Lord. For he has come to Israel to remember mercy; The promise made to Abraham, To his sons forever.

Lyrics: Savior, again to thy dear name we raise With one accord our parting hymn of praise. Once more we bless thee ere our worship cease, Then, lowly bending, wait thy word of peace.
Grant us thy peace upon our homeward way; With thee began, with thee shall end the day. Guard thou the lips from sin, the hearts from shame, That in this house have called upon thy name.
Grant us thy peace, Lord, through the coming night; Turn thou for us its darkness into light. From harm and danger keep thy people free, For dark and light are both alike to thee.
Grant us thy peace throughout our earthly life, Our balm in sorrow and our stay in strife. Then, when thy voice shall bid our conflict cease, Call us, O Lord, to thine eternal peace.

Lyrics: Salvation unto us has come By God's free grace and favor. Good works cannot avert our doom; They help and save us never. Faith looks to Jesus Christ alone, Who did for all the world atone; He is the one Redeemer.
What God does in his law demand And none to him can render, Brings wrath and woe on ev'ry hand For man, the vile offender. Our flesh has not those pure desires The spirit of the law requires, And lost is our condition.
It is a false, misleading dream That God his law has given That sinners can themselves redeem And by their works gain heaven. The law is but a mirror bright To bring the inbred sin to light That lurks within our nature.
Yet as the law must be fulfilled Or we must die despairing, Christ came and has God's anger stilled, Our human nature sharing. He has for us the law obeyed And thus the Father's vengeance stayed Which over us impended.
Since Christ has full atonement made And brought to us salvation, Each Christian therefore may be glad And build on this foundation. Your grace alone, dear Lord, I plead; Your death is now my life indeed, For you have paid my ransom.
All blessing, honor, thanks, and praise To Father, Son, and Spirit, The God who saved us by his grace All glory to his merit! O Triune God in heav'n above, You have revealed your saving love; Your blessed name be hallowed!

Lyrics: Now the light has gone away; Father, listen while I pray, Asking you to watch and keep And to send me quiet sleep.
Jesus, Savior, wash away All that I've done wrong today. Make me ever more like you, Good and gentle, kind and true.
Let my near and dear ones be Safe with you eternally. Oh, bring me and all I love To your happy home above.
Now my evening praise I give; You once died that I might live. All your precious gifts are free -- Oh, how good you are to me!
Ah, my best and kindest Friend, You will love me to the end. Let me love you more and more, Always better than before.

Lyrics: Lord, teach us how to pray aright, With rev'rence and with fear. Though dust and ashes in your sight, We may, we must draw near.
We suffer if we cease from prayer; Oh, grant us pow'r to pray. And when to meet you we prepare, Lord, meet us on the way.
Give deep humility; the sense Of godly sorrow give; A strong desire, with confidence, To hear your voice and live;
Faith in the only sacrifice That can for sin atone, To cast our hopes, to fix our eyes On Christ, on Christ alone.
Give these, and then your will be done; Thus strengthened with your might We, through your Spirit and your Son, Shall pray, and pray aright.

From God providing physical sustenance in the Old Testament in mana from heaven to the spiritual substance of God's Word in the Bible.
From Jesus Christ, the living bread, who came to take away the sins of the world to the sacrament of Holy Communion.

Lyrics: Blessed Jesus, living Bread, By your self our souls are fed: Give us all the eyes to see All that you were sent to be.
“What is it?” old Israel cried, Ate it, and was satisfied. Now the same prolific hand Feeds them in a barren land.
Not by this world’s bread alone Can our life become full-grown, But by every word that goes From the mouth of God one grows.
On that table made of wood Lies our sacramental food: “Take and eat and live” you call, “Here is life for each and all!”
Ah, what welcome words you speak: Comfort to revive the weak, God’s own wisdom, hope, and cheer Starving souls are blest to hear.
Word incarnate, Word divine, Word that comes in bread and wine: Love that we have come to know: Lord, to whom else shall we go?
We are in that crowd you fed With your blest, abundant Bread. Moved by every human care Bless the Bread we eat and share.

We are told in John 1:29 that upon seeing Jesus approaching, John the Baptist calls out, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” John’s proclamation is significant as a lamb was required as a yearly sacrifice by the Jews as atonement for their sins. The blood of the lamb was also spread across the doorways of Jewish homes at the first Passover and allowed God’s judgment to “pass over” them.
John’s declaration tells us who Christ is and what he has come to accomplish, to sacrifice Himself as payment for our sins, and through Christ, we are spared God’s judgment. We most often sing the words of the Agnus Dei, Latin for Lamb of God, as part of the Liturgy during Holy Communion.

Remember me. Remember me. Remember me. Remember me. Have mercy on us. Remember me. Have mercy on us. Remember me.
Sung as part of Holy Communion in the Divine Service, the Sanctus is a proclamation that our Savior Jesus Christ is with us in body and blood for the forgiveness of our sins. The lyrics begin with the song of the angels from Isaiah 6, “Holy, holy, holy! Lord God of power and might: Heaven and earth are full of your glory.” The lyrics continue with the song sung as Jesus rode into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, “Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.”Nunc Dimittis (Song of Simeon) - Lyric VideoKoine2021-01-22 | Like this video? Lent has offered us the opportunity to walk with Jesus from his Glory revealed in the transfiguration, to his glory hidden when he was disfigured and nailed to the cross. Though the season may make us blue, its purpose is to have us long for that first glimpse of life on Easter morning.
As we trudge through the dead faith and decay of blind scoffing, sleepy disciples, a betraying friend, and brutal abuse, we know Jesus went through all of it for us that we might be grafted into the Vine that sprouted from the empty tomb.

Oh, that Lord Would Guide My Way is a great opening song for worship. The energy of the arrangement and plea for the Lord’s guidance sets the tone for a fulfilling worship experience.
From our album Church Bells.
LYRICS:
Oh, that the Lord would guide my ways To keep his statutes still! Oh, that my God would grant me grace To know and do his will!
Order my footsteps by your Word, And make my heart sincere; Let sin have no dominion, Lord, But keep my conscience clear.
Assist my soul, too apt to stray, A stricter watch to keep; And should I e'er forget your way, Restore your wand'ring sheep.
Make me to walk in your commands - 'Tis a delightful road - Nor let my head or heart or hands Offend against my God.

LYRICS: When God the Spirit came Upon his church outpoured In sound of wind and sign of flame, They spread his truth abroad And, filled with the Spirit, Proclaimed that Christ is Lord.
What courage, pow'r, and grace That youthful church displayed! To those of ev'ry tribe and race They witnessed unafraid. And, filled with the Spirit, They broke their bread and prayed.
They saw God's Word prevail, His kingdom still increase, No part of all his purpose fail, No promised blessing cease And, filled with the Spirit, Knew love and joy and peace.
And, filled with the Spirit, Knew love and joy and peace.
Their theme was Christ alone, The Lord who lived and died, Who rose to his eternal throne At God the Father's side, And, filled with the Spirit, The church was multiplied.
So to this present hour Our task is still the same: In Pentecostal love and pow'r His gospel to proclaim And, filled with the Spirit, Rejoice in Jesus' name.
And, filled with the Spirit, Rejoice in Jesus' name.
And, filled with the Spirit, Rejoice in Jesus' name. Rejoice in Jesus' name. Rejoice in Jesus' name.

Lyrics: Blade run through, This paschal ewe is pierced too. Little one that I’ve nursed now burden my curse.
And why does this night differ unless we see its sunrise?
Isaiah tell me true, was this the Lamb for you?
Did He walk and talk and bleed into the shadows that you drew?
So why does this night differ unless we see its sunrise?
Like a lamb that hears your voice, I’m listening every sunrise. sunrise. sunrise.
Isaiah — tell me true, was this the Light on you?
Did it satisfy and spill into the darkness Eden grew?

Lyrics: Draw us to thee, for then shall we walk in thy steps forever
And hasten on where thou art gone to be with thee, dear Savior.
Draw us to thee, Lord, lovingly; let us depart with gladness
That we may be forever free from sorrow, grief, and sadness.
Draw us to thee; oh, grant that we may walk the road to heaven!
Direct our way lest we should stray and from thy paths be driven.
Draw us to thee that also we thy heav'nly bliss inherit
And ever dwell where sin and hell no more can vex our spirit.
Draw us to thee unceasingly; into thy kingdom take us.
Let us fore'er thy glory share; thy saints and joint heirs make us.Draw Us to Thee - Christian Song with LyricsKoine2019-04-08 | Like this video? You can find this, plus sheet music, audio tracks, still and motion backgrounds, presentation slides, and more at www.koineworshipmedia.com

This Is My Will - Christian Song with Musical Notation
This Is My Will is a singable retelling of the Maundy Thursday experience in the upper room. The graphics emphasize the Lord’s Supper but the song is usable throughout the Church Year whenever “love” is emphasized.
Lyrics: “This is my will, my one command, That love should dwell among you all. This is my will, that you should love As I have shown that I love you.
"No greater love can any have Than that one die to save his friends. You are my friends if you obey What I command that you should do.
"I call you now no longer slaves; No slave knows all the master does. I call you friends, for all I hear My Father say, you hear from me.
"You chose not me, but I chose you, That you should go and bear much fruit. I chose you out that you in me Should bear much fruit that will abide.
"All that you ask my Father dear For my name's sake you shall receive. This is my will, my one command, That love should dwell in each, in all.”
