This is part seven of a ten part podcast series focused on the ten most impactful developments in artificial intelligence expected to transition from limited use to infrastructure-level technology over the next five years.

Specifically, this podcast introduces Regulatory Compliant “Explain by Design” Models.

These systems are presented as the inverse of black box models because they are inherently built to produce human-understandable explanations for their conclusions. We outline the expected timeline, noting that this approach will likely be mandatory for high-risk AI systems by 2026-2028, largely driven by regulatory acts such as the EU AI Act.

The necessity for this technology is emphasized by its ability to foster trust, auditability, and compliance in critical sectors like finance and healthcare, even though challenges such as a potential performance gap and the need for standardization remain.
