In the novels of P.G. Wodehouse, Jeeves is impressive because he understands context and human weakness. This lecture traces that ideal from early ubiquitous computing to contemporary predictive assistants. We explore why optimisation is not judgment and prediction is not wisdom, examining how to design assistance that supports human capability.
