Can Tripo AI turn a handful of reference photographs into a convincing, screen-accurate 3D-printed movie prop?
In this video, I attempt to recreate the decorative bonnet props fitted to James Bond’s Aston Martin Vanquish in Die Another Day. Instead of modelling everything manually in CAD, I use reference photographs, AI-generated viewpoints and Tripo AI’s image-to-3D tools to create something that can actually be inspected, refined and 3D printed.

Version one was too large and heavy. Version two improved the print orientation and surface quality but introduced another screen-accuracy problem that I couldn’t ignore. That led to version three: a smaller, lighter and more practical model designed around an Aston Martin bonnet vent.
Once printed, the parts were primed, painted, weathered and even placed inside the Morpho UV printer to add colour, shadows and surface details. Finally, they were fitted to my Aston Martin to see whether the idea worked in the real world.
This project demonstrates both the strengths and limitations of AI-generated 3D models. Tripo can turn photographs, sketches, written prompts and multiple reference views into workable 3D assets extremely quickly—but human judgement, design knowledge and manufacturing experience are still needed to make those assets genuinely useful.
These are completely decorative, non-functional film props. They do not fire, operate or perform any function beyond making an Aston Martin look slightly more ridiculous.
