Does Gumout Regane with PEA improve MPGs? DE Nichols 2019-02-03 | I've tried a lot of fuel additives to improve my miles per gallon. They usually don't do much, and the one time a fuel system cleaner made a huge difference for me in 1998, the results were kind of terrifying. Maybe that's why they're subtle and gentle? They're avoiding lawsuits?Scotty Kilmer did a big push on Gumout with PEA years ago and as soon as the ad campaign started I couldn't find one Gumout product that was on the shelf which was available with PEA. Either he sold it out, or Gumout made an advertisement push, then dropped the only chemical proven by scientific journals to actually clean up engines. At least according to Engineering Explained, PEA or polyetharmine is the only chemical which has peer reviewed journals proving that PEA can do for an engine. I think most of us know and can agree that Engineering Explained is a reliable part of this community and a solid source of information.Well, Gumout in the last few years has had PEA back and when an AutoZoner pointed out what was on sale, I figured why not. I'll make a YouTube video and it's good to run a cleaner as a part of maintenance every once and a while.And thus this video was born. I really didn't get a MPG boost during the test but you could say that since TCW3 gives me approximately 2 more miles per gallon, not losing 2 miles per gallon by skipping it may have meant that Gumout's Regane actually worked.My truck's miles per gallon is steadier than you can expect. It's amazingly consistent. My larger tires cost me a couple MPG's, but really, with every turn I'm going farther so my engine is just going less miles per the actual distance. I truly suspect that my gas mileage has remained unchanged. When I first got the truck I did a few modifications, which helped it's gas mileage and it's been the same ever since. I'm happy to say that this winter didn't knock my miles per gallon down 2 points like it normally does so I do suppose I do have some deviation.Note: Scotty Kilmer did his test on the Gumout Complete Fuel System Cleaner. It must have been a product that Gumout immediately ran out of or changed their labeling to stay fresh on the shelf. I've noticed they switch up what they lookout and their products contents sometimes twice in 6 months. 1.8 Liter Ecotech Oxygen Sensor Replacement on Chevy, GM, and Opel Upstream Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 DE Nichols 2020-11-17 | This Oxygen Sensor was making the engine crash and die. most of the time it 2aa accurate. I spent all of 6 hours driving around with my friend before I spotted that occasionally the upstream sensor had reading which would keep calling for more fuel or less and less even though the downstream oxygen sensor, after the catalytic converter was pegged lean or rich, and while the catalytic converter does change the fuel readings of an oxygen sensor the pattern wasn't matching up. This video is more about how to remove and replace the oxygen sensor but I always at least discuss why. Codes aren't accurate for replacing oxygen sensors too often to replace it just on a code. You might get lucky. If you don't want to get lucky get smart. Rhkips has used it in a lot of engines and he says it can cause oil starvation and block up oil filters. It contains solids which can get in there with soft metals and fill in spaces which shouldn't have space in then.A hint for part 3. Well, we aren't getting your car or truck, or even motorcycle glasses today, but we are going to help you see farther by clearing up those plastic lenses so we can see farther into the night.You see, you shouldn't drive faster than you can stop. I learned that in motorcycles, but I felt that this was an issue with this Hyundai Atos as well. It doesn't have the best brakes, but if I could see further, than they are sufficient. To restore your headlights, it does take some skill, but if you can do what I'm seeing, then you'll be seeing going down the road better at night. Sure, the headlight restore kit comes with sandpaper, and I have bought that separately before to restore a headlight, but I feel like Presto and other kits like this do a good job having the right kind of sandpaper for the job, which is very important. Clearing your headlights without sandpaper is pretty tough. They won't stay clear without some chemical protection. The price reflects this a little in Germany and fairly a lot more in America.I only am likely to buy these in 3/8", but if I need it and I'm blown away, I just may get more. As a pro, it is hard to deal with a warranty that's shorter. Mostly shorter because I'm only in Germany for so long. I can warranty them for 2 years in Germany and maybe more, because they are kind and love their customers. First impressions of Toom, yes, but good ones, especially with the language barrier which I cross as much as I can and it goes a long ways to how Germans react to me. Rule out if it's the battery, the alternator, or the starter.Sometimes the posts can be dirty sure, but a lot of people forget to look at the connections past that point. The grounding cable and the positive terminal going back into the positive cable are important too. and unclean connection could cause problems, or even a fire! I've seen that!All of this advice works great for trucks which won't start or a truck which won't crank overcar that won't start or a car won't crank over. Extra safety message. Some battery testers use coils which heat up and can ignite escaping gas fumes. Keep the tool back and away as possible. Skip testing swollen batteries. Ultimate Oil Filter Buying Guide DE Nichols 2019-09-28 | In this video, I reveal the true maker of K&N Oil filters. I also explore STP filters and the truth behind AC Delco filters. Oil filters have different metal retainers which keep the shape of the filter media. The all give the strength that I believe, but a couple of the designs, I think reduce oil flow. STP filters are my pick at the moment, but as designs change, I'm going to review and change my mind as necessary. Fram oil filters are as expensive as STP oil filters but they don't have the best track record. That said, I read an article from a man who claims to have had a bias against them and that Fram has worked to improve the issues they had. An example problem would be under strength retention designs. Oil by passes which may have failed, either for never working, or not being strong enough allowing unfiltered oil under the wrong conditions. This last one, I have to rely on channels who break down oil filters, and other scientific testing. Pennzoil Platinum Full Synetheic motor oil is a unique oil. It's source material is technically a group 3 oil, but the way it's made makes it better than most. It's almost as good as the best group 4 oil* and easily better than expensive group 4 oils which "racers swear by" when they're pouring that oil in a normal car! Group 4 oils used to be the only oils which were allowed to be called synthetics. Oxygen Sensor Diagnosis, tips for most vehicles, on a 2018 Chevy Equinox DE Nichols 2019-07-20 | Here's a down and dirty diagnosis of an oxygen sensor. Sometimes it's just this simple, but do be thorough and check everything I talked about so you get your diagnosis correct. Careful. It's easy to burn yourself working around hot exhaust, especially catalytic converters.Here, I'm working on a 2018 Chevy Equinox, but these principles of diagnosis using live sensor data will work on any car or truck so long as it's not running air fuel ratio sensors. Using my technique to put the oxygen sensor in loose to check for a clogged catalytic converter will work on an air fuel ratio system.A lot of scan tools use the abbreviation HO2S so you can use that to find it on your live data. It'll also say bank 1 sensor 1 or bank 1 sensor 2 for the upstream and Downstream oxygen sensors or it'll say bank 2 sensor 1 or bank 2 sensor 2 for the 2nd bank of your engine also talking about upstream and Downstream oxygen sensors. Without figuring this out, you won't know which oxygen sensor the code and live data are talking about.#HO2S is how your oxygen sensors will often be abbreviated or your scan tool's live data. HO2S heater circuit testing is how you can check the heater circuit if you have a different P code than I did. P0132 has to do with the sensing side of the circuit. #OxygenSensorRelated codes which may come up: DTC P0131HO2S Circuit Low Voltage Sensor 1 - this will show up on live sensor data sometimes as a voltage which is stuck lean. It used to be a lot worse but I've built a couple inch dirt dam which makes my garage not take a hit without a really heavy deluge of rain like today. My driveway was under an inch of continuous flowing river of water. I warned the neighbors as the weather said lime sized hail could hit. That's not just property damage. I'm not that great at painting, but waxing these up seems to have smoothed out my mistakes from 4 years ago.I think those kits they sale work. That's how my employers sale to fix up headlights, but I think long term, they guarantee being needed again and again, while this really does seem to be a permanent fix, unlike what Scotty Kilmer said when he disagreed with Chris Fix. Maybe on another headlight, on another day Scotty Kilmer was right, but maybe the people doing the painting just sucked even more than I do at painting headlights!I used Nufinish, and while not technically a wax, at least back in the 90's it seemed to be the best and I haven't tried a lot of new tricks. Is Lucas Oil Stabilizer good for motorcycles? Wet Clutch Slip? DE Nichols 2019-05-07 | I usually don't use Lucas Pure Synthetic Oil Stabilizer. I learned something new from this experiment.My Yamaha WR250R has very high demands on it's motor oil so I have been trying different things to get more use out of it. It goes from 10w-40 to 5w-20 in just 1000 miles and at that point, that's just terrible protection. I've been trying to find oil which supports both my wet clutch and the engine to a greater distance.In fact, watching this video, makes me think that would I should have tried is Lucas's oil Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer which wasn't for medium weight synethetic oils like the more modern synthetic is. I noticed on the shelf now is actually an even thinner Lucas Oil Stabilizer, which is designed for modern engines. Clearly straight 40 weight in any quantity would be really hard on VVT type systems which requires oil to pressurize through much tinier openings than what oil was asked to do in the past. Thus, all the new thinner oils in modern cars.A thin oil in my Yamaha would be a disaster. See my related video where I learned what synthetic oils, even JASO MA & MA2 approved for wet clutch oils does to my Yamaha: youtu.be/MEV9NMXSOqgSo, at just 1 oz. of the synthetic oil stabilizer, I'm getting marginal increases of viscosity. But I can't do more...trying 2 oz. made my clutch slip so bad I was afraid 10 minutes into my commute, that I wouldn't be getting to my job. It was about 2nds of my life, but it was a very high stress, thinking, my experiments have cost me being on time for work!This information should be very similar from for 2008 to 2019 Yamaha WR250R motorcycles, but the engine was changed a bit in about 2015 so earlier models may be effected a bit differently. In this video, other than the additive, I've only shown JASO MA and MA2 oils. This means that they are approved for wet clutch use.In another year of owning this motorcycle, I'm thinking this brand new motorcycle just never had strong springs on it's clutch. I'm going to upgrade it when I change my clutch and see if my life gets easier, I don't have to change the oil every 2 weeks of riding, and I can just run synthetics which keep their viscosity up and protect the engine at the maximum for the longest.In the use of Castrol 10w-40 I was not getting more than 1k miles of an oil change interval or OCI. That's SO little. That's why I considered oil additives. That and I use Lucas Pure Syntheric Oil Stabilizer so little that it's kind of just sitting around.In the search for the best oil for my motorcycle, I'm trying my hand at Sheel 15w-40 next. My Yamaha WR250R calls for 10w-40, so I mixed it down a bit, but I'm seriously starting to think to have more range, I just need to start with something higher. Note: At the end of the video, I discuss oxygen sensor heater failures which is a completely different type of failure and as long as you test for no broken wire an oxygen sensor code saying the heater is bad will pretty much be right...sometimes it's a fuse for that. Though I remember this one Chevy truck or Suburban where the wiring had fallen down on the drive shaft and the fuse was blowing because the heater circuit was arcing across the drive shaft. Whether we're talking about the 3/8" ratchet straight or flex-head, 1/4" ratchet straight of flex-head, they've all gotten better over the last 4 years that I've been enjoying them.They're made from Chrome Vanadium, a couple of their tool numbers are 73-871, 73-971, and the other 2 are really hard to find on their website. A lot of what I was thinking about shooting but I apparently hadn't for the last video came out of you guys as well. Seems like we've got a lot of similar thinking, which suggests to me that we're all wrong about the results or we're all right about understanding the results together.I wouldn't use Gumout Regane with PEA or polyetharmine on a brand new car. While peer reviewed journals have proven that PEA does clean engines, also evident in those engine tear downs and measuring of where carbon was that PEA DIRTIES perfectly clean engines. It'll help maintain and clean an engine with a little bit of gunk in it, but if the engine is perfectly clean it'll dirty it a little to start! I know it sounds bizarre, but it's true.So this is part 2 of "Does Gumout Regane with PEA improve MPG's". Part 1's link is above. I think that it did help with the gas mileage. The miles per gallon was maintained despite letting go of the use of TCW-3. If I run nothing, my Nissan Frontier automatically goes down to 14 miles per gallon, but I've maintained 16 miles per gallon with first Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant for a couple years. This was back before I ran the TCW-3 for the last 2 years to maintain the 16 miles per gallon. I know in the last couple of tanks of gas, I "contaminated" the results a bit with lining up my front left tire a little, but it wasn't until then that my gas mileage starting going more above 17 miles per gallon.Again, with just normal low octane gas, I get 14 miles per gallon. I had thought that I had not gained any gas mileage with the Regane, but I maintained 2 more miles per gallon with the Regane, so therefore it can maintain an improvement. Harbor Frieght Pliers Set as a gift! Come and Have fun with us! DE Nichols 2019-01-14 | i have put my own Harbor Freight Pliers set through years of use. I thought it'd make a useful gift. I checked, and when I bought the set it was a 5 plier set so now you do get an extra fine plier that I never got before! This is good because it means I have not lost one of them under the hood of a car yet, lol. Here's something cool that I noticed when they were new. The fit and function of them lines up quite nicely. Also, after heavy use they are really slow to get out of line. I had to abuse the heck out of my needle nose in a bad situation to truly get them out of being in line and they're lifetime warranty!The cutters or snips are something that I used nearly every day and I've never felt the need to sharpen them for years.The slip joint pliers are excellent for helping you take off a battery without taking the time to find a tool that's just the right size. Buick LeSabre Blend and Mode door issues DE Nichols 2018-10-14 | Great running car. So great that you can't even say, "Great for it's age." His mode and blend doors weren't being reliable and they tended to flip up to defrost outside of his control. A couple of weeks ago, he was having an issue with the A/C refrigerant leaking out, so I used some dye and no apparent leak was found.I used a sniffer and it had a strong reaction to the area with the condenser and the receiver dryer.My hydro-carbon sniffer, that's what refrigerant sniffers smell, also picked up a faint smell from under the dash.I know Brandon wanted to get the mode door and blend door issues more than anything else, but I also knew that if we went in there when the evaporator was also leaking, then we'd have to tear the dash apart again.I told him that often times my sniffer will get a little smell from the dash vents if there are a lot of leaks under the hood, so we should start with where the leaks were bad first.We gave it a few days and nothing under the hood was leaking anymore and thankfully the evaporator only had a light smell because of all the seeping leaks under the hood.I think that's why you can't always find A/C leaks from dye. It's like a tire that you can't get air bubbles out of while it's under water. Oh, it's losing air alright, but if the structure is generally compromised with tiny cracks and seepage all over, a tire could lose air fast and you'd never figure out where it was happening.That's the same issue for his condenser and receiver/dryer. The only reason his A/C appeared to be reliable before all this happened was because he has an older car with a rare 2.0 lbs of R134a system. The newer systems have much less and are much more quick to lose efficiency when they lose a little. He'd still be running cold with 1/3 of the R134a missing, while a modern car would generally have a noticeable impact on how cold the air was. 1995 Buick LeSabers. Honestly, long lasting vehicles for the time and very reliable.Unfortunately, the deepest mode door acted up again, which we couldn't figure out the trick to break down to. It's important to watch and understand the directions. Failure to do so can destroy catalytic converters or worse even hydrolock your engine. Certainly be safe. In proper proportions, TCW3 as a gasoline additive will enhance the protection of your engine beyond having a good motor oil and using good gasoline. It gets to parts more quickly than what your gasoline can do, protecting pistons, piston rings, cylinder walls, valves, and everything else, which the combustion process touches.I put a tremendous amount of research into how TCW3 oils are tested and made. They are the very finest of oils in the sense that each oil must pass a test for preventing wear on an actual engine. Depending on the the wear on a 2 stroke engine, which has parts which are unprotected without the help of 2 stroke oil, the TCW3 certification indicates whether it was as good as the standard or better. This got this customer out of an expensive $1000+ catalytic converter repair! DE Nichols also talks about a Chevy Colorado with only 90kish miles. It was running terrible and misfiring. Only being a few years old, it shouldn't have had all these issues. DE Nichols checked the TSB's and found that Chevy said that if an intake cleaning service didn't solve it, then the cylinder heads would have to be removed and be manually cleaned. GM also stated that this can be done as normal for maintenance to prevent the problems from starting in the first place. You see Direct Injection engines don't have fuel injectors behind the intake ports which keeps those valves clean. Without that cleaning being in the design, these types of cars can be prone to having "failing engines" when really they just need a clean up! "Normal" or older cars have port injected engines and they are more reliable, but sometimes they need a service like this to run like new again too. Fix Vacuum Leaks like a Pro, Toyota Corolla DE Nichols 2018-06-20 | Down below is brain storming ideas if you ever struggle with a vacuum leak! Click for more! P0171 or P0174 may be your nemesis, but it's rarely mine. It's generally not hard to figure out, but then, at work, I can cheat. If brake clean and a scan tool doesn't help me figure it out, I break out the smoke machine. That said, there have been vacuum leaks where even the smoke machine couldn't solve it! Typically it doesn't work if there's a leak on the oil pan or valve cover, which is significant enough to impact the running of the engine. One time it was the seal on the oil cap, on another, the seal on the oil filler neck.Lots of Ford trucks have an elbow which is leaking away on the back and top of the engine where you may never look without smoke or experience.One of the times smoke didn't work, brake clean got sucked in! That was an intake seal, like the possibility, which I point out in this video.I'm using Ian Hawkings Torque Pro app as available on Google Play. I'm not sure but if look up OBD II to blue tooth dongle you should find many hardware compatable devices with an Android and maybe for I phone as well, but if it is you may need a different app from the i store.Today, I happen to be working on a Toyota Corolla, but I find working vacuum leaks is one of the most universal subjects, which I can teach, which is actually much more independent of the vehicle, which you are working on.Extra safety message:Brake clean can easily pool on engine components and start a fire. I've always been careful and I've managed to not start a fire this way, but I've welded not long after using brake clean on a cold winter day and even though everything looked dry, the brake clean was ready to set on fire with the falling embers from welding. Thus the "multi" part of the name is they have a lot of options. Even amp measurements, but as my subscriber Terrace Balloon Man learned, the AMP meter is usually limited to a pretty low AMP, and if you go above it, you'll blow out your instrument. This can be true on a very expensive DVOM as well.I have to say thanks to my friend over at the Struggleville channel. I don't have extra batteries or an external charger, but that shouldn't be a surprise. I don't think if you get it, that you've found it from Harbor Freight. While this is the word on the YouTube street, I saw a lot of reviews before I even knew what I owned was popular, lol. I think most people don't even know about this as I watched a few videos and read many comments to even know about having a changeable battery. To me it's like the new cell phones I don't like because there's no changeable battery for a part which wears out faster than the phone.390 Lumen Magnetic Slim Bar Folding LED Worklight. What a mouthful. It's easier to say it's item no. 63958. That's Harbor Freight's complete title for this product. A lot of popular mechanic flashlights use 2 AAA batteries and they produce maybe 220 lumens. I'm specifically talking about the Streamlight which goes in your pocket like a pen would. Very efficient to focus in on what you're working on, but working with more lumens over a bigger area can make the increase in light you get not seem as great as it really is. Having the slim bar focus the light forward helps as a lot of area lights have a wide angle to blind you as you work. That's still an issue with this light as I've found working with it. It's base for it's large battery is quite tall so it can be a challenge in tight places to use this and not get glare, especially if you where glasses as they can pick up glare from behind you. The Braun Slim light twists and bends so while this sounds like a lot of adjustment, it'll feel limited under hoods, especially with modern cars actually having way less steel that you can use on it's magnet. Watch out for bolts. They more often have enough feral, or magnetic metal so you can still get a grip with this light.Bonus safety message!Be safe around electricity. Reinstalling the Nissan Frontiers Stock Cold Air Intake Part 2 DE Nichols 2018-03-25 | Truly, fake, stock, cold air intakes is a very common problem for making power. It's not just Nissan, I notice manufacturers do it all the time. In this video, I show serious issues with my inexpensive eBay Short Ram as I discover through installation issues which were present also on the stock air box without realizing it! Understand, that while this particular example is on a Nissan Frontier, Pathfinders and 2002-2004 Nissan Xterra's should have identical engine bays if it has the V6.
