The Center for Active Living serves over 1,600 West Seattle neighbors aged 50+ — and it's the community piece that makes aging in place actually work.
I'm Chris Gibson, mortgage advisor and Board Treasurer at The Center. This is my pitch for the annual fundraising campaign: I'm asking 20 of my West Seattle connections to give any amount to keep this place affordable and accessible.
Why this matters: membership dues only cover 7% of The Center's budget. Donations cover 22% — about 3x what members pay. That gap is what keeps programs affordable for every neighbor walking through the door.
What The Center offers:
- 40+ weekly programs — yoga, tai chi, line dancing, art, language classes, mahjong, chess
- Affordable daily meals — hot lunches Monday-Thursday plus Margie's Cafe
- Wellness & support services — social worker outreach, free elder-law consultations, fall-prevention classes, support groups for Parkinson's, Low Vision, Caregivers, and more
If you work with West Seattle clients over 50 — as a real estate agent, financial advisor, CPA, or estate planning attorney — The Center belongs in your toolkit. It's the answer to the "can my client actually stay home?" question that financial tools alone can't solve.
