"Do you need a body to be an intelligent system? Clearly not. Artificial systems such as Large Language Models do not have a body, and yet they are promptly qualified as intelligent and even conscious.
But what exactly is intelligence? And do you need a body to be “somebody”, i.e. a self?
What is the relationship between selfhood and intelligence in biological and artificial (dis)embodied systems?
This session aims to address these questions by looking at the link between cumulative (i.e. quantitative) versus qualitative information processing in artificial and biological self-organising systems."

"AI is a subset of an exciting emerging field called Diverse Intelligence. At the intersection of developmental biology, information science, and cognitive science, an integrated new understanding of embodied minds is emerging. In this talk, we will show how intelligence is not a unique product of brains but is baked in to the agential material of life. This has huge implications for AI beyond neuromorphic architectures, and for the creation of unconventional engineered, evolved, and hybrid agents. While AI has much to gain from the new biology being discovered, the converse is also true. Advances in AI may help overcome barriers to definitive regenerative medicine, if applied beyond conventional bioinformatics targeted at the hardware level of life (the genome). In this talk we will discuss the prospects for, and recent advances in, the interplay between the fields of biological and synthetic intelligence."
