We sat down after the first day of Agent Conf 2026 to compare notes on the talks, the people we met, and the changes we want to make to our own agent workflows.
The conversation covers:
- Nick Miller’s “Building a Software Factory with Cursor, xAI, and Grok Bot,” including the work he automates outside the codebase and why his approach made such an immediate impression.
- The opening keynote from Mike Grabowski and Michał Pierzchała, with a closer look at Apex, our specialized React Native model, and the cost, speed, and quality trade-offs behind choosing a model for a specific task.
- Anisha Malde and Kourtney Meiss’s “Agents FC: Harness Your Agents Into a Winning Team,” which showed how developers can configure and coordinate agents through a practical harness.
- Kent C. Dodds’s “I Built Your Personal Software Ecosystem,” including Kody, his MCP-based personal software ecosystem for carrying tools, secrets, and workflows across different AI hosts.
We also get into model routing, Agent Device and deterministic replay, portable Model Context Protocol setups, and the work required to keep tools, skills, and configuration under control.
Agent Conf brought 500 engineers from different parts of software development into the same room. We may use the same words for agents, harnesses, and software factories, but teams are still working out what those concepts mean inside their own systems.
