Meet Skye Netting, the cinematographer behind Mum’s New Boyfriend, as she shares how collaboration is fundamental to bringing Ziggy’s story to the screen, with extensive scene breakdowns for framing, colour, and screen design elements, as well as lighting, to shape the story and support a narrative that cuts between the real world and the main character's fantasy world.

Mum’s New Boyfriend is a short film about Ziggy. In his imagination, he’s a noble Elf, his mum a powerful Witch, and her charming new boyfriend Rob, a sinister Knight. As Rob moves in and reshapes their home, Ziggy suspects he’s manipulating Mum. Everyone says he’s overreacting until Rob’s birthday gift to Mum sparks chaos, fantasy, and truth.

The film is one of AFTRS' Year 3 graduation productions, student-led projects bringing together three years of learning, creative development and craft, produced as part of the Bachelor of Arts Screen: Production program.
