The Meditating Philosopher | After Socrates' Ecology of Practices : Finding Your Root | Episode 2 @TheMeditatingPhilosopher | Uploaded January 2023 | Updated October 2024, 20 hours ago.
In Episode 2 John shares many insights into the imaginal as a part of the psyche/soul that can help us move towards our aspirational selves as well as open up aspects of the world to us in profound and real ways.
_______
Rooting
Context: Finding your “root” and developing the right kind of relaxation, stable and sensitive so you can flow flexibly outside of your practice. This practice aims at cultivating a mind that is open yet centered and stabilized.
Do the centering practice from episode 1 first: center mind and body, center your attention, center your attitude.
Eyes are closed.
Imagine a space slightly above your head, as you inhale imagine it expanding in all directions - opening up, expanding your awareness, expanding your connection to the world.
As you exhale, imagine everything gathering together.
Yang into yin, yin into yang
On the last little bit of the exhale, imagine an opening, melting, draining down to … do this for the next areas.
Let your attention move down to your third eye area
Let your attention move down to your throat
Let your attention move down to your heart
Let your attention move down to your solar plexus
Let your attention move down to your belly, your natural center
Let your attention move down to where you’re sitting
Let your attention move down and sink into the earth, connecting you, stabilizing downward, also nourishing upward.
Then begin meditation once you feel rooted in this optimal grip.
