When Courtney Griffith steps onto the racetrack, she’s not just chasing speed — she’s celebrating life. Not long ago, she was recovering from emergency brain surgery after doctors discovered a large tumor pressing on her optic nerves.
Her journey brought her to UW Medicine’s Alvord Brain Tumor Center, where specialists across neurosurgery, neuro-oncology and radiation oncology work together to treat complex brain tumors. Courtney continued radiation treatment at Fred Hutch Proton Therapy Center (fredhutch.org/en/patient-care/treatments/proton-therapy.html), the region’s only proton facility. Fred Hutch Cancer Center is an independent organization that serves as UW Medicine’s cancer program.
