I've seen the African Flower on menus and heard of it a bunch of times in New York, but for some reason I never got around to try it. Until today. I realized I had the ingredients at home so I made it! And wow, this is really good..! Some call it a Manhattan variation, and I guess I would agree, but it has more layers than that. The sweetness from the Creme de Cacao is balanced well with the bitterness from the amaro and the vanilla notes from the bourbon. Quite an exquisite blend if you ask me!
African Flower
2 dashes orange bitters
3/8 oz (11ml) Creme de Cacao
3/8 oz (11ml) Amaro Cio Ciaro
2 oz (60ml) Bourbon
Stir for a few seconds and serve over a big cube if you have it. Garnish with an orange peel. Enjoy!
