Afghanistan: "Between Life & War" is a book project by Paula Bronstein (Getty Images) featuring the award-winning photojournalist's coverage of Afghanistan starting from late 2001, continuing for well over a decade. While embedded with U.S forces on occasion, the book project exclusively draws on work from Paula's independent photography of the war torn country. It focuses on how Afghan people conducted their lives against the backdrop of an unceasing violent war and a brutal Taliban insurgency. These images tell heart warming and heart breaking stories of extreme poverty, human rights abuses against women, lack of healthcare, education, employment, of love and compassion, and the vulnerability of mankind. As a female working in a conservative Islamic country, Paula's perspective gives the viewer a more intimate look at the plight of Afghan women, following their personal life struggles.

Paula Bronstein's many nominations and awards span decades and represent only a small space in what is simply a lifetime of phenomenal frontline news and documentary photography across the globe.
