Across the four weeks of AEI’s 2026 Summer Honors Program, contributors to the Institute’s “We Hold These Truths: America at 250” initiative take students on an intellectual journey through the American Revolution. The series concludes with two eminent scholars of Abraham Lincoln, AEI’s Allen C. Guelzo and Diana Schaub, considering the Revolution’s legacy through the 16th US president’s use of the Declaration and the “new birth of freedom” it invoked.
The first event, on June 1, situated the Revolution in its international setting, and the second, on June 8, centered on the Declaration and liberal education. In the third week of the summer series, editors of the initiative’s volumes reflected on how these essays contribute to our civic life and the founding’s enduring relevance.
