Snotty and brazen in the LA tradition, but careening with the velocity of an early James Chance record, Advoids have delivered a masterful opening statement with their taut, tense demonstration. Having honed their song-craft doing time in prolific DIY stalwarts The Freakees & Diode, they have already perfected the art of sounding genuinely unhinged. They approach this with a visceral sense of economy; no note of the sparely laid guitar is wasted, while the rhythm section propels every song with an unstoppable groove, the perfect foundation for vocalist Gabbie to launch her venomous rants and raves.
It culminates in a 5 song rollercoaster that crams more ideas in 8 minutes than other bands manage in their entire careers. In a punk-subunderground awash with tossed off demos and too-cool-to-care charlatans, Advoids have set themselves apart with an immensely satisfying release that by rights should put them on the radar of any and all discerning deviants.
