FAQ stuff:
- Loading screens were shortened in editing so you guys wouldn't have to stare at 15 minutes worth of loads.
- Timing starts when you select "Ready" on character select, and ends when you beat oxide, triggering the game's credits.
- Speedruns of CTR:NF are timed "loadless," which is done by using a plugin on livesplit that pauses the timer when it detects a loading screen. This includes the fade to white/black at the beginning and end of loading screens. There is a loading screen leading into the final hub that the load remover doesn't recognize, so we remove that load manually (hence why my timer at the end says 49:55, but my official time is 49:50)
- RNG splits refer to podiums, which are completely random and can lose up to 3.3 seconds every time. There are 3 podium types, 1. Fast, where the camera comes straight down and focuses on your character immediately, 2. Slow, where the camera comes down and sweeps side to side (loses 2.3 seconds), and 3. Slower, where the camera comes down and wobbles and tilts (loses 3.3 seconds). There are 16 podiums in the run, and all 3 of these animations have an equal chance of occurring. There is no known way to manipulate this RNG.
- I use acceleration because I'm stubborn and also like being able to show off that you can still be mostly competitive while not using speed. Overall, acceleration loses about 60-80 seconds over the course of an entire any% run.
- not going to get into anything else in terms of tech, this version of this video is meant to be enjoyed as a longplay without commentary, except done quickly. In a few days I'll be making a version of this video with commentary, explaining some of the stuff going on in speedruns.
This run is about 5 seconds off of the current Acceleration class WR, but is still very improvable. 49 minutes with acceleration was my long term goal I set at the start of this game's life cycle, and I finally achieved it. I'm not sure when I'll look to improve this time, but I'm definitely fairly happy with this run, even though its riddled with some pretty bad mistakes in a few tracks. Overall if I played without major mishaps, I could save about 30 seconds, and that's not including simple line optimization.
