Dealerships are told by the OEM what they have to sell. If they don't meet their minimum quotas they pay penalties or lose dealer priviledges. Ultimately this means customers get sold on parts that aren't in their best interest.
In my shop WE choose what we sell. We have no obligations to our suppliers except to pay for the parts we buy. That's a HUGE advantage to customers.
