Anyway. I haven't edited with Miraculous since I was in, like, middle school, I think. And I'm still just as ashamed as I was then. (Crossing my fingers that season four gives us more Adrien angst, though. I want him to snap.)
What she says: I'm fine.
What she means: I was watching Miraculous and there's a surprising amount of symbolism with Adrien's right hand (his ring hand) when it comes to his father, be it intentional or not. He touches his ring when talking to his father, his fidgeting displaying clear insecurity. Beyond that, in the scene where Gabriel watches Emilie's movie with Adrien, he makes sure to put his hand over top Adrien's right one, hiding his ring. This metaphor for smothering Adrien's freedom (along with the slow pan down to the basement) gives sinister implications to what the show frames as a "tender" moment between father and son. Furthermore, when Adrien is playing the piano for his father, the hand that plays a sour note and upsets Gabriel is his right hand. His ring hand, again. (Worth noting that Gabriel signals for him to stop playing by raising his left hand.) After being grounded for the aforementioned "poor performance," Adrien begins to sadly play again with his left hand. To continue, when Adrien and Gabriel play the piano together, the camera focuses on Adrien's left hand, whereas when he plays with Plagg, Adrien plays with his right hand. He scrolls through his phone, looking at pictures of his mom, with his left hand. (I don't trust that Emilie was as loving and sweet as Adrien says she was.) He wipes away his tears over missing Emilie with his left hand. He holds his medal, asking for his father's approval, with his left hand. When Chat Noir is trying to put distance between himself and Hawk Moth, he reaches out with his right hand, because the ring represents safety and happiness for him.
