In this first lecture of the Virgilio Lecture Series, titled “Singing with the sirens: voices of the Mediterranean myth,” Adriana Cavarero explores the collective expression of the singing voice in the myth of the sirens. Through her reinterpretation of the myth, Cavarero investigates the central organizational meaning – the sirens’ singing – through the experience of the sirens themselves. As much as they are objects of sailors’s arousal, the sirens, too, find a pleasure in the act of singing.
