India’s space journey continues to set new benchmarks. After the historic Chandrayaan-3 lunar landing, India turned its focus towards the Sun with Aditya-L1, the country’s first dedicated space-based solar observatory.
Launched by ISRO on September 2, 2023, Aditya-L1 was designed to study the Sun from a halo orbit around the Sun-Earth L1 point, approximately 1.5 million kilometres from Earth. In January 2024, the spacecraft was successfully placed into its targeted halo orbit.
The mission is now providing valuable observations of solar activity and phenomena, including insights into powerful solar flares and solar processes.
Aditya-L1 represents another major milestone in India’s expanding space capabilities, strengthening the country’s contribution to solar science and space research.
