Soldiers from the 2nd (Australian) Division conducted a mortar concentration activity at the Puckapunyal Military Area, Victoria, on 05-07 June 2026.
The training provided soldiers with the opportunity to develop and refine indirect fire skills in a field environment while strengthening teamwork and technical proficiency.
Crews employed practice rounds to confirm procedures and target engagement drills before progressing to high explosive, smoke and illumination rounds, enhancing their ability to support various battlefield effects.
The activity conducted demonstrated the mortar platoon’s capability to deliver accurate and effective fire support.
The exercise reinforced core soldiering skills, communication and fire control procedures while ensuring personnel maintained competency on the weapon system.
Training activities such as these contribute to Army readiness by preparing soldiers to integrate indirect fire support into combined-arms operations and deliver responsive effects on the battlefield when required.
