This video is intended to help you navigate the process of adding new sprinkler heads to your existing irrigation system.
I will cover; 1. your irrigation system's requirements, 2. the anatomy of a sprinkler system, and 3. the tools and components you'll need.
As I cover in the video, you'll need to identify your irrigation system's capacity. To do so, use a stopwatch to time how long it takes to fill a 5 gallon bucket from your irrigation spigot. Take that number and divide by 6 to get the amount of time required to fill a gallon of water. Then divide 60 by the amount of time it takes to fill one gallon of water (the first value you gathered) to get your system's gallon per minute (GPM) output. Once you have this information you'll want to compare to the gallon per minute (GPM) requirements of your sprinkler heads. This will tell you if you have the capacity.
Example. It takes you 30 seconds to fill a 5 gallon bucket. Divide 30 seconds by 5 gallons and you'll get the rate of 6 seconds to fill one gallon. Then take 60 seconds and divide by the rate of 6. This will yield 10 GPM, which represents the gallon per minute capacity of your system.
Take the 10 GPM capacity and compare it to the requirements of your sprinkler heads. If your sprinkler heads consume 1 GPM then you know you can fit 10 sprinkler heads in your zone (10 divided by 1).
Tools used:
crimping tool: amzn.to/3S7IGau
pipe cutter: amzn.to/3CG52tO
benzomatic torch head: amzn.to/3yOWPlZ
