Bunny applies some clay (a much appreciate present from a fellow gardener who had too much) to her roses to help improve the moisture and nutrient retention of her poor, free draining soil.
Although Bunny regularly adds loads of digestate, green waste and bark to increase the humus content of her soil, clay adds a different dimension as it boosts the all important Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) of the soil. This is brilliant to add to veg beds or any borders that benefit from a better water holding growing medium.
So don’t always give clay the thumbs down, it can be the answer to your prayers.
