At first glance, Sarah Larson looks like any other golfer, ready to tee one up. But look closer, and you will see a powerful swing executed with just one arm.
Sarah was born without half of her left arm, due to amniotic band syndrome.
She lives in Manitowoc County, and is on the board of directors for the North American One Armed Golf Association.
Larson participated in a tournament for the association last week.
She admits, when she started this golfing journey, she battled her own thoughts of self-doubt.
But she did try it. And it happened to her, like it happens to many: "I had that one amazing contact with that ball, and I was hooked, ever since."
She's taken that love one step further, and is mentoring other adaptive athletes, like 8-year-old River Blattner of Sun Prairie, who was born with only one fully developed finger on her left hand.
With Sarah's help, River is starting to play golf.
For these two, golf is about more than just the score. With every swing they take they're building confidence, friendship, and proving they can do anything they put their mind to.
Blattner is proud of everything she and other adaptive athletes can accomplish.
Larson is grateful to be more than just a coach to Blattner.
Together, they remind us all that adaptive sports are not about what is missing, but the strength that is fully present.
With that attitude, these two can't miss, on the course, and in life.
