This memorial video takes you on a nostalgic walk-through of the long hallway down the center of the old Strings & Things music store on Madison Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee. The store closed its doors not very long after this video was shot.

This was the third incarnation of the venerable old music store that originally opened on Cooper St back in the early '70s. Like some colossal musical instrument museum, this facility was huge, impressive, and largely deserted most of the time. The owners, Chris and Charlie, just couldn't convince all the folks who now shopped in east Memphis to come in to midtown.

The building has since been gutted and reincarnated as the new Minglewood Hall. Here's hoping that musical performances sell better there than musical gear used to.

UPDATE: Strings & Things rides again with a small store near Sun Studio at 630 Madison. The Chris & Charlie duo is still split up, but the beat goes on with two generations of the Lovell family trying to keep the flame alive.
