i play the ios sonic cd port a lot at home, and while playing tidal tempest 1 i pondered the possibility of going back the way you came through this one-way door setup. it is, in fact, possible!
incidentally, i managed it without spindashing by jumping off to the right and pulling back to the left in mid-air, landing on the switch with some speed and narrowly fitting under the gap as the door closes. but spindashing off the switch is easier
