Action Packed Angel Steps

Firstly a thank you to Exeter Rider for the use of his footage.
This turned out to be a brilliant day out in the lanes. Exeter Rider, Epic Motorcycle Adventures, Ken and I were led on a wonderful tour of green lanes by Mister Dave ( who has featured previously on my channel in this series: youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5mpUZ2mEgRjlvaEsB6fnr__xyT9eQRk4 ) and it took us to the base of Angel Steps. Angel Steps is a notoriously tricky climb made difficult by a combination of steepness and lack of grip. Below a thin layer of forever wet mud, is a hard shiny stone surface. Cameras never do these things justice.
We had a lot of fun along the way, but let's get straight to the meat and potatoes. We took it in turn to tackle Angel Steps.
Mister Dave on his Honda XR125 rode brilliantly. I think you'll agree that his skills are plain to see. However, he became stuck just after a chicane that the MCC had created a few days before, whilst preparing for a trial that commenced the following weekend. I believe if the shrubbery hadn't been strewn across the track, he would have made it all the way. You may just be able to catch a glimpse of an epic save as he disappears into the bushes.
Then it was Epic Motorcycle Adventure's turn. What a battle he had. He was spat off on his first attempt but not willing accept defeat. In the end I think Exeter Rider managed to talk him out of trying again. But hat's off to him, he had a good crack at it, and there aren't a lot of people that would send a BMW1250GS up that lane. I really felt for him because I know how much he wanted it. There for another day I say.
My go. Quite uneventful, thanks to my Pirelli MT21's and following Ken's advice to run them at low pressures. A very different story to my last attempt at Angel Steps, which led to Ken being covered in mud after giving me a push. I was running out of grip at the point that Mister Dave got stuck, and there was some sideway action, but luckily had enough momentum to keep it going.
Ken's turn on his BMW 80GS, and this is perhaps the most impressive run. Although he was on trail tyres, they were well worn. He was all out of grip by the time he got to Mister Dave's bike, yet somehow, much to my surprise, he made it. That's experience for you.
Finally, Exeter Rider on the Sinnis SM-XE. Well he sat down, stuck his legs out, and actually handled the lower section quite easily. I wasn't expecting that. Well done him and well done Sinnis. I think we all took a shine to that little bike. He got stuck just below Mister Dave's bike, but fair play.
