The Action at Bir el Gubi in November 1941 took place in Libya and was one of the opening engagements of Operation Crusader. In this show Stephen Keoghane will share the history of the 2nd Royal Gloucestershire Hussars and other units of the British 22nd Armoured Brigade up against the Italian 132nd Armored Division "Ariete".
Stephen Keoghane joined the Royal Wessex Yeomanry in 1994 and served for twenty-two years as the regimental medical officer, soldiering in Europe, the USA and Afghanistan. He left his regiment as a lieutenant-colonel in 2016. As a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a consultant surgeon in the NHS, he has published extensively in textbooks and scientific journals. In recent years he has diversified into writing British military history and is now a regular contributor to a variety of well-known history magazines. He has published 3 books with Fonthill Media - Shield and Protect - a history of the Essex Yeomanry is his latest, released in July 2024.
