Everyone has a level that scares them to their core whether they have beaten it or not. You may find it harder than some others think, you may make reasons as to why a level is underrated or overrated, you may change your mind. Over the past year my life has completely changed, I've completely changed as a person and my efforts to get away from my negative past has lead me to some dark places. I first started going for Acheron when it was #2 in October 2024. I wanted it to be a de-rust level as I wanted to go back to Tidal Wave. I made extremely quick progress getting to 96% in a month, then seeing the level drop lower and lower on the list due to the rise of CBF (which I will talk more about later), my motivation to play the level went to straight 0. I didn't play the level from November 2024 up until February 2025 where I got 50% again after going through hell to de-rust. I told myself I would play the next day but I didn't do that lmfao, I quit again for another month. Came back in March to get 86% randomly then repeat the cycle where I told myself I was gonna play it the next day and not doing it. A part of my experience I hated was the fact I constantly had double clicks at far parts of the level (like 64%). I ended up having to disable the Zero Delay mod and buying a new keyboard just for the level to be playable. I basically was playing Acheron on the hardest difficulty excluding ridiculous stuff like 144 fps. And I really did not want to cave and switch to CBF. Every time I opened the level I felt an immediate sense of dread taking over my head. I became irritable, angry, rude, and lowkey annoying. I told some close friends about the level I was playing hoping it would motivate me to play more, it didn't. The level loomed over my head with 96% and the thoughts of me never getting back there after weeks of grind, so I just didn't grind. Any time I thought of playing Acheron I could come up with 100 different BETTER things I could be doing with my time. I wasn't able to stream it obviously because for some reason I chose to do this in secret. I felt locked from uploading because I wanted my first video in almost a year to be a banger and not some lame completion. After my March fail I came back in around May to make a little bit of progress but obviously was too demotivated to keep playing so I quit ONCE AGAIN. I came back in August with new motivation. I grinded for 3 weeks straight every single day for around 5 hours each session, I tripled my deaths from 50%+ from 50 to around 150. I died all over the level in basically every spot you could think of. One night at around 4 AM end of August I died to 98% after a 5 hour session. This fail genuinely broke me, I didn't feel like talking to my friends or doing anything interesting online. I knew eventually I would have to come back to the level to finish it off but the thought of having to grind dozens of hours just for another CHANCE of completion, it made me walk away. I came back last night with the intention of just de-rusting again like I always do (probably like the 5th time). Somehow by some chance of God, I beat it. My heart and hands literally did not know how to function in that moment and I lost my whole sense of control. The amount of joy I felt in that one moment will be very hard to match. Anyway that was a TLDR of my experience now let's talk about the external things that made me hate Acheron. The whole CBF thing is basically beating a dead horse at this point so I'll try to not cause any drama because it's not needed, don't read further if you beat the level on CBF and don't want your feelings hurt. This level is fucking free on CBF, it basically turns ₳₵ⱧɆⱤØ₦ into (っ◔◡◔)っ ♥ acheron ♥. It nerfs every notable chokepoint with minimal downsides, the precise parts become way more forgiving which is literally what gives the level its difficulty. I've played the level on both versions and found myself literally not dying to my struggle points barely ever after experiencing it on 2.1. Anyone who says they are similar difficulty between versions really confuses me as there are extremely clear differences to be experienced. If you beat it on CBF I wont try to bash you, it's still really hard, but don't compare it to 2.1. Sorry to anyone wishing I beat Tidal Wave or something, I will go back one day ❤️
