This is the Ace Combat system in action. Each airplane has an IR gun, a sensor, and lights. When the sensor sees gunfire it dims the lights and pulses the motor indicating a hit. When it is shot down, the lights and motor pulse slowly for several seconds. You can see the gun shoot in the night camera.
