VIDEO INFO: Broadcast live by CBS from the Staples Center, Los Angeles on 8 February 2015, this slightly surreal appearance at the 57th Grammy Award Show proved an unscheduled swansong for the classic incarnation.
Malcolm Young, suffering from dementia, had departed a year earlier to be replaced by nephew Stevie (the family resemblance prompting many a double-take) and this was the band’s first appearance after drummer Phil Rudd imploded and was superseded for a second time by Chris Slade.
Chronic hearing loss forced singer Brian Johnson to retire a few dates into the subsequent tour and bass player Cliff Williams decided that destiny was telling him it was time he called it a day.
Which just left Angus, the last of the original band members and, self-evidently the one indispensable element of the AC/DC brand.
(Keep your eyes peeled for glimpses of, among others: Paul McCartney, Ed Sheeran, David Grohl, Tony Bennett, Jane Fonda, Pharrell Williams & Jeff Lynne)

VIDEO INFO: One of few original gems to emerge from the unmasked era as it appeared on the 1993 ‘Kiss Konfidential’ DVD – basically the video accompaniment to the ‘Alive III’ album consisting of live-ish footage recorded during the ‘Revenge’ tour [here with upgraded HD 24-bit/96kHz Remastered Audio]. The band received some criticism for the undeniable audio tweaking of this and other live releases but I would argue in their defence it was probably minimal and unnecessary – I saw them twice on this tour and they were unquestionably tight!

While this more intimate gig didn’t seem to have a specific purpose, it was a welcome continuation of the reboot to give fans what they had (mostly) been craving after what seemed like a couple of decades of chuffing about – straight, expertly performed versions of the favourite hits.
Although the various characters were back in the wardrobe, he seemed to compensate by consistently reproducing whatever hairstyle Helen Mirren was sporting at the time, hence the lion’s mane on display here…

VIDEO INFO: This could well be the fifth time I’ve posted this, but probably the best quality now. The audio is the Hi-Res Audio 2012 remaster of the original version, unedited (so not from the film track and free of any movie sound effects) and the visuals from the Blu-Ray edition of the 1978 ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ movie.
The Beatles wisely went nowhere near this fiasco which had characters and a nonsensical ‘plot’ loosely (very loosely) based on random words from their 1967 masterpiece. The movie was a starry enough affair with George Burns (whose narration is the only real dialogue other than songs in the film) Steve Martin, Donald Pleasence and Frankie Howerd (who couldn’t raise the tiniest titter). Also along for the ride were The Bee Gees, Peter Frampton and Alice Cooper, but all that showbiz firepower produced nothing of any value except this smoking cover of ‘Come Together which was actually a big hit.
Aerosmith retained some credibility cast as ‘Future Villain Band’ (or F.V.B. …FFS!) and the Batcave-esque set design of their lair is pretty effective (I would buy the neon $ in a lonely heartbeat).
