Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity (a = Δv/Δt). The unit for acceleration is m/s/s, or m/s^2. Acceleration is a vector with magnitude and direction. If velocity and acceleration point the same direction, the object is speeding up. If velocity and acceleration point opposite directions, the object is slowing down. Changing direction is also a form of acceleration.
